Our Mission
The Office of Orientation and Family Programs
and Services (OFPS) is a centralized and comprehensive department, within
the Division of University Life, whose primary purposes are: to foster
engagement, build community, establish tradition, and affect retention
through three coordinated initiatives: undergraduate orientation,
family/parent outreach, and leadership development. With special attention
to transition and the first year experience, the Office of Orientation and
Family Programs and Services provides innovative programs and services that
facilitate the social and academic acclimation process for George Mason
University students and their families.

Undergraduate students enrolling for the first time are charged a $160 New
Student Fee. This fee covers the costs associated with Orientation
preparation and materials, mailings and publications, catered meals,
parking, and new student programs offered throughout the school year.
The fee is assessed regardless of enrollment or Orientation attendance. The
mandatory, nonrefundable, one-time fee will appear on each student’s account
upon registration for classes. |
